My Story

Hi,

I’m Jan Longerich, graduated sound - designer, engineer, artist and overall audio enthusiast.

I grew up in a musical family. My mother loves to sing and used to play small gigs in pubs and bars in my home town. My father listened to a lot of classical music, opera singing by Andrea Bocelli or pieces by Bach, which he also played on the guitar. My brother, who is eleven years older than me, also started taking guitar lessons at an early age and is still very musical to this day.

So it was only natural that I was sent to fipple flute lessons at the age of five or so, followed by a few years of guitar lessons. I also had a cassette radio and loved listening to my favorite radio shows and recording music on it.

But the constant, monotonous re-playing of pieces I already knew bored me more and more, and so at the age of sixteen I started creating sound pieces on the computer and tormented my friends with them.

That's how I discovered electronic sound production for myself, which I would probably never get bored of with its endless possibilities for creating new sounds and timbres.

This discovery led me, after a short detour into the world of applied geology, to the sound - and music production studies at the media campus of the h_da University of Applied Sciences where I graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sound & Music Production. During my studies I had the opportunity to get insights of many different areas of the audio industry like recording, mixing, mastering, surround & spatial audio, live sound, foley, sound design, sound art, acoustic ecology, DSP, programming and more. I also worked on collaborative projects with other students from motion pictures, interactive media and game design studies what gave me first practical experiences in working with sound and different media.

Already in 2017 I started working as a freelance audio designer for Theater & Orchester Heidelberg, where I was responsible for the sound design, recording, smooth setup and running of the shows. From 2018 I also worked as media technician and live sound engineer on fairs, congresses and concerts around europe.

When Corona lockdown hit the live sound industry I could no longer work in this job and I decided to shift my focus on working in a recording studio environment.

In 2022 in started working as recording engineer and editor for dubbing, voice over and audiobook studios in Berlin, Germany what I do to this day.

Beside my bread and butter career I worked on a lot of different projects from indie films and documentaries over advertisements and media art to electronic music, live performance, DJ-ing and organizing events and festivals.

In my free time I love to create sounds, synthesize, sample, making music and go on field recording trips to discover and collect the sound of this world.

My Mission

It was always most important for me to stay curious and inspired on my creative journey.

Like Rick Rubin said in other words:

Creating art is about staying truthful to yourself and your vision, making commerce is more about trying to make something that perhaps pleases a faceless audience in hope for profit.

When I work on creative projects I always keep it authentic to the vision, truthful to the concept, the original idea, because that's it what makes it special, unique and outstanding in the end and creates true resonance with the audience.

I want to help brands and creators to find and create their own unique, authentic sound that connects them even more with their fans and followers.

Besides that I'm still on my own personal journey as an artist and audio professional and keep pushing my boundaries through experimentation with new tools, techniques and ideas.
